FOLLOW UP ON MARIEL DAVENPORT’S STUDY, A HOUSEWIFE DESPERATE FOR GOD PART 2 (PP. 24–88)

* The bulk of my reference stems from notes on page 22 and forward. (See previous posts.)

Successful adults don’t happen by accident. It takes intentional effort to raise children to adulthood who have a strong sense of their destiny in God, a passion to serve Him and a deep knowledge of His gifts and callings. As parents, we know our children better than anyone else. By partnering with God we can equip them to go after their dreams and be all He called and created them to be. ~Kate Battistelli, Charisma Magazine*

Job 23:12: More than my need, He reminds me of my promise (24). Though I have tried and failed at my attempts to keep an early morning devotion, I have been trying to fit Him into the schedule I have for Him rather than the schedule He has for me. Without the discipline I have missed rest. Without rest, I have missed grace.

I need the discipline in order to avoid setting Him aside. I need the morning hour because that has been our meeting place. I struggle with anything outside of that atmosphere; and, as I am still walking out this process, I hear Him calling me through these words:

Proverbs 31:15: rise up – early morning, spiritual provision

* night season – refining, molding, purifying, making clear, clean from imperfection, free from guilt

** rises – qum – ‘gets up’ rises up, established, strengthened (25)

The distinction is what He is telling me {us} to do. It’s not about when. It’s about why. He has called me here. Otherwise, there is no grace, only law. There is no covenant, only sacrament. There is no influence, only oppression. (See page 43 and the beginning of Week 3 for details on Mrs. P’s influence, etc. This is one of the areas that speaks the strongest to me in marriage and in raising Proverbs 31 Men.)

Where there is no grace, there is no Jesus. Where there is no Jesus, there is no intercessor.

The Abrahamic Covenant {Demonstrative, take dramatic action.}

* on my face

** on my knees (25)

The covenant bara, as listed in yesterday’s post, is the cutting of the chord, the separation. The choice to serve Him, the obedience to listen to His voice, and the promise that exists in our relationship. {Intermingling Mariel’s thoughts with my circumstances.}

He calls me to dramatic action. He calls me to intercede for my husband.

The husband – Genesis 17:3–4 {Abraham} The wife – Genesis 17:19 {Sarah}

“For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth” (Isaiah 54:5, NIV, my emphasis). {Yahweh Sabboth}

He calls me to be prepared. He calls me to intercede for my boys. He calls me to multi-task in a fruitful way:

Proverbs 31:15 – portions for her servant girls – knows her limits, timely

Be productive. Designate. Use your tools, your gifts (25).

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. Acts 16:31–34

* Let my faith be genuine and His presence be so real upon me that those around me are moved to salvation. Let this be their desire for you (p. 88).

    Your notes are so interesting and always seem to apply to my struggles, so I have to assume that this is book is relevant to my life and that really sparks my interest!
    I can so easily slip into legalism, and then look around in surprised wonder when I can’t find grace. Your post really helps break down the progression of what can be a daily problem for me.

      Me too, Audra. That’s why God has me here and has brought me back to intercession.
      Thank you for always being a continued support. :)
